FAQ

How do I find out what version software I have in my FB2?

To check the status of your recorder, just connect it to your PC, open the existing configuration software and click on the "system information" tab. Note down the following values: 1. Recorder Information/ Software Version - this is the firmware version of your recorder. The latest version is 2.3.1 2. Configuration SW Information/ SW Version - this is the software version of the PC configuration utility. The latest version is 2.3.1.1/V

I can't find my PC cable, what do I do?

You can buy a replacement PC programming cable and USB to serial converter from Drivedata's online shop

Why won't the PC utility communicate with my recorder?

There are a number of reasons why you may not be able to get a connection to your recorder using the serial cable and configuration utility. Here are a few suggestions: 1. No power to recorder or connection timed out - check you have a 12V DC power supply connected to the PC configuration cable (2.1mm DC socket) and the small LED next to the flash card slot on the recorder is flashing red/green. 2. Port number is incorrectly set in the configuration utility - click the Re-Scan button in the Program Setup tab and try another port number in the drop down menu 3. USB-Serial converter incompatible - some USB-Serial converters do not work well. We can supply a suitable converter if you suspect yours isn't working properly. We recommend USB-serial converters which use the Prolific chipset/driver 4. Wireless/LAN adapter blocking serial port - Some users have reported conflicts with wireless LAN adapters. Temporarily disable these in Windows and try again. 5. USB/Serial port faulty or already being used - Try using a different physical port on your PC (remember to change the port number in the Program Setup tab of the configuration utility) 6. COM ports taken by other devices - check the status of your COM ports in Windows Device Manager. We have had cases where the PC had allocated all the available low numbered COM ports to other devices even though they weren't actually being used. In these cases, the recorder's COM port number was too high to be recognised by our software (COM32 for example). In this case, reallocate a lower COM number to the port being used to connect to your recorder and try again (COM1-COM6 will usually work fine).
