FAQ

Does the CAM EYE SPORT V1.4 or v1.6 LANC remote work with the DR3?

Yes, both versions work OK. If you don't have a remote control, consider our CES2 LANC remote, which is fully compatible with the Cam Eye Sport/DR3 and is also waterproof.

How long does the internal battery last?

If fully charged, the internal battery will power the recorder and a bullet camera for approx. 3 hours of recording. The battery will take approx. 6.5 hours to charge fully after being run down completely.

I accidentally turned off the DR3 while it was recording and now I can't open the video file on the card. Can I recover the file?

We have tested several software utilities capable of opening and re-saving corrupt AVI and MPG files. We recommend you try these for yourself. Most have a trial version you can download to try before committing to buy. We cannot guarantee you will be able to recover a corrupt file if caused by powering off or removing the CF card during recording.

AVI file utilities:
ASF-AVI-RM-WMV Repair - www.repairvideo.com
VirtualDub - www.virtualdub.org

MPG file utilities:
VideoReDo Plus - www.videoredo.com
MPEG-VCR/Womble MPEG Editor - www.womble.com

I have set recording quality to 'UQ' but don't get any sound.

'UQ' quality mode uses the full processing power of the DR3 to record in native MPEG2 video at the highest quality possible, but no audio is recorded in this mode.

I want to import video from the DR3 into Final Cut Pro or AVID for editing, but the DR3 file type is not supported.

Apple's Final Cut Pro and AVID are non-linear editing systems which don't support generic video file types such as .AVI or MPEG2. It will be necessary to convert the DR3 files to .MOV (Quicktime) format using third party software first. We recommend the use of MPEG Streamclip (http://www.squared5.com) for MAC-based editors and River Past Video Cleaner (http://www.riverpast.com/en/prod/videocleaner/pro/) for PC-based editors.

I'm seeing choppy/stuttering playback when I view DR3 video files on my PC

Playback issues such as stuttering, no audio, no video or errors when you try and open a video file on a PC is usually an issue with installed codecs. Your PC will have many codecs installed by media players and other software and sometimes they can interfere with each other and cause problems. There is no easy or quick answer to sort out codec issues, but we strongly recommend avoiding Windows Media Player and instead use VLC or Media Player Classic. We include versions of these players with every DR3. Sometimes the problem is due to DirectShow filter clashes on the system. We have used GraphEditPlus (http://www.thedeemon.com/GraphEditPlus/) to fix these problems and we recommend trying it, as long as you understand that it will edit your PC's registry and any registry changes can have unpredictable results.

Why do I get "Error - No Card!" when I try to record on a new Flashcard?

You must turn the DR3 off BEFORE inserting a compact flashcard or you will see this error when you try to record. This error may also occur with an incorrectly formatted card or one that's incompatible.
